ways2see: Wayfinding for people with visual impairments or blindness

This homepage was programmed by pupils of the Odilien School. A special thank is given to Dipl.-Ing. Reinhard Urban, Dipl.-Ing (FH) Erich Könighofer and Mag. Dominique Heißenberger of Odilien-School and the students of classes 2IT and 3IT for their efforts. The implementation was done by Gernot Hegedüs, Benedikt Holler, Talha Tuncer und Daniel Zipper. Documentation and testing were executed by Sebastian Glanzer, Gregor Graf, Paul Hackl, Markus Köttler, Florian Loder, Sandro Maier und Markus Mente.

The project ways2see is developing an Internet platform for people with visual impairment or blindness, which will offer information to this target group for everyday life and for planning daily trips and routes. Thereby the specific needs of the users will be respected by retrieving information to plan individualized routes. Comparable to a route planner, exact descriptions of the routes for people with visual impairment or blindness are offered, supplemented by further hints, to support and optimize orientation. In addition, dangerous spots and barriers are provided. Because of the fact that it is not sufficient to present mere maps and descriptions of routes, the user interface of the platform is barrier free. This includes, e.g., that the Internet page is operable via keyboard, that all elements are capable for screen reader and that maps are specifically designed for the use by people with visual impairment or blindness.

The next pages offer various information about the project as well as additional information about the mobility of people with visual impairments or blindness.

The internet platform is available under: ways2see
